The Senior Portfolio Relationship Manager position serves as a liaison between the Commercial Lending team, the Credit Department and the customer/prospect.  The Senior Portfolio Relationship Manager with the Commercial Lending team and the customer proactively supporting their assigned Loan Officers with existing Portfolio Management functions necessary, within scope of authority and expertise, to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to customers, both internal and external.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Productivity, Portfolio Management and Asset Quality:

 

  • Work with assigned Loan Officers to manage existing portfolio of customers by tracking and preparing annual renewals for lines of credit, reviews of term debt and conducting annual reviews on a timely basis by reviewing and managing the Bank's tickler system and ensuring reviews are completed on time, within 30 days of line expiration date.
  • Suggest corrective action when necessary during the review process including terming out evergreen lines of credit, and seeking waiver approvals as necessary.
  • Assist in covenant testing on lending relationships where covenant testing is required and along with the Loan Officer obtain proper approvals for covenant testing violations.
  • Assist in preparing modifications of existing loans as appropriate and determine if request complies with Bank policy and note exceptions. Modifications include interest rate changes, payment changes, maturity date changes, release of collateral, substitution of collateral, partial releases of collateral, release of guarantors, substitution of guarantors, conversion of construction loans to permanent loans, re-amortization of loan payments after principals pay downs and any other modifications to the original loan agreement.  Assess if modification requests are in compliance with Bank policy and note exceptions accordingly.
  • Assist Loan Officer with ensuring that all proper documentation for modifications is completed including the determination if a Modification is Due to Financial Difficulties (MDTFD), updated COBO form and preparing the Loan Modification Agreement (LMA) or determining if an Attorney must complete the LMA and sending the final executed documents to the Loan Coordinators for processing.
  • Review and interpret financials, credit bureau data, and collateral analysis and perform cash flow analyses as needed in connection with renewals, covenant testing, annual reviews and modifications and identify potential problem loans and deficiencies during the review process to ensure early detection of potentially deteriorating credit quality.
  • Completes MBE line of credit renewals assigned in a timely fashion to ensure no renewals go past the 30-day maximum due date.
  • Determine if loans qualify for transfer to the MBE and BN-Seasoned Portfolios and take appropriate action.
  • Provide borrowers with amortization schedules, when requested.
  • Process construction and other loan advances by following established protocols including preparing advance memo, ordering title rundowns, reconciling invoices to requested advance amount, reviewing inspection reports (as applicable), and processing request with the Loan Coordinators and/or Loan Servicing in the case of Participation Loans. Additionally, forwards the full advance request to participating Banks when BankNewport is the Lead Bank in the transaction.
  • Assists in processing Risk Rating upgrades/downgrades as proposed by Loan Officers by completing the Risk Rating Concurrence Form.
  • Assist Loan Officers with quarterly construction monitoring and monitored loan updates.
  • Process credit references, audit requests for customers, and confirm if pre-payment penalties apply for pay-off requests received from Loan Servicing.
  • Able to handle more complex credits including those with larger exposure, with SWAP agreements, Participations with both Lead and Non-Lead Banks

  • Interact with attorneys and financial professionals including CPA’s, CFO’s, Environmental and Appraisal consultants as needed to assist Loan Officers during origination process to get new deals to the closing table.
  • Actively review and manage Bank's tickler systems to assist Loan Officers manage their Portfolios including check-ins with assigned Loan Officers to review their pending line of credit renewals, covenant testing requirements, maturing loans, collection of outstanding items for recently closed loan and financial statement collection progress.
  • Continually review and recommend process improvements as applicable including improvements to the Portfolio Management process and nCino system enhancements.
  • Assist Loan Officers with nCino system questions for new loans.
  • Work on assigned optimization projects including nCino Optimization, Identifi, UCC project and make process improvement recommendations where appropriate for the benefit of all.
  • Coaches and mentors Portfolio Relationship Managers within the Team by answering credit related questions, deal structuring questions and suggesting process improvements to the Team.

  • Work with and effectively communicate with internal departments including the Loan Support Team, Loan Servicing, Deposit Services, Compliance, Credit Risk Management and nCino Administrator to ensure excellent service is being provided to both our internal and external customers.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work with Direct Manager to determine individual professional development goals and needs.
  • Participate in training seminars and workshops to enhance skill level.
  • Perform all required regulatory training in a timely manner, as required by the Bank.
  • Perform special projects as assigned and deemed necessary by Bank and/or Management.
  • Work on multiple projects as assigned.
  • Act as back-up for Team Manager in Manager’s absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SUPERVISORY SCOPE:

No supervisory responsibility.

 

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

 A self-starter who performs work within established guidelines and according to specific procedures and time frames.   Refers concerns or problems to immediate supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • College degree and/or formal credit training required.
  • At least five years of commercial loan portfolio management experience with Real Estate and C & I /underwriting experience (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of various word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Bank’s lending, credit and compliance policies, procedures and overall expectations.
  • Must be able to prioritize and adjust assigned tasks based on on-going factors.
  • Must be a detailed oriented person, able to multitask with an emphasis on deadlines.
